Cool-n-Save Proves High Humidity Performance

(PINKSHEETS: GDGI) today announced preliminary results from an ongoing study that demonstrates that relative humidity has little impact on Cool-n-Save's ability to reduce energy consumption of standard commercial air conditioning systems.
"The goal of this study was to compare Cool-n-Save performance in high humidity versus low humidity environments," says Darius Jakubik, Senior Vice President of the company. "We had been told that humidity would significantly reduce Cool-n-Save performance. However, anecdotal evidence led us to suspect that humidity was not much of a factor. This is the first time that we have accumulated enough data to make a viable comparative analysis."
The study uses data collected during a 21-day field test at a major data center in Las Vegas with data collected since September from an office building in Jaco, Costa Rica. The field test in Las Vegas was conducted in August 2011, when relative humidity was below 34% and temperatures were well above 95°F. In Jaco, Costa Rica, the relative humidity has topped 90% while the average outdoor temperature has been 85°F.
During the 21-day test period at the data center in Las Vegas, two monitored units that were pre-cooled by Cool-n-Save technology used an average of 131 KWh versus 177 for two parallel units that were not pre-cooled. The result was an average of 26.2% in energy savings. During ongoing monitoring of the installation in Costa Rica, the customer has seen an average 21% in energy savings.
"Taking into account the difference in temperature, our expectation is that Costa Rica will see 25% in energy savings when temperatures reach 95°F," says Jakubik. "Therefore, if relative humidity has any effect on Cool-n-Save performance, it must be very small."
The Costa Rican business community is also closely monitoring the installation in Costa Rica, among them Banco Nacional, Costa Rica's largest commercial bank, and Mas X Menos, a major South American retailer owned by Walmart.
