Chartwells School Dining Services Awards Kaukauna Area School District With the Be-A-star National Account of the Year Award
(firmenpresse) - KAUKAUNA, WI -- (Marketwire) -- 11/21/11 -- Kaukauna Area School District, Wisconsin, was recently honored as the Be-A-star National Account of the Year Winner by Chartwells School Dining Services, a division of Charlotte, NC-based Compass Group. The National Account of the Year is awarded to a district that exemplifies business excellence and goes above and beyond the call of duty in areas such as community service, financial performance, customer and client satisfaction, wellness, and diversity. Leslie Willems, Dining Service Director at Kaukauna, first place winner of the Regional Account of the Year, attended the national awards banquet celebration in Orlando, FL in October, and was recognized along with other national winners from across the country.

Their commitment to the community
As part of a highly successful event called SLURP! Chartwells' Kaukauna associates collaborated with music and art students, staff and community members to volunteer their time and donate ingredients to make soup
Volunteers made 47 different types of soup and served the public along with music and art students
All proceeds went toward Loaves & Fishes (a local food pantry)
Twelve Kaukauna associates were involved in outreach activity
Thirty-five total man hours/time were donated by Compass Group associates
A total financial contribution of $300 was made by Compass Group associates/account
1,000 cans were collected from more than 500 people in attendance (3 cans = free bowl of soup)
Their initiatives to promote Breakfast via the 2011 New Years Resolution
Students were encouraged to sign their name to the New Years Resolution board saying they agreed to eating breakfast, whether at home or at school, as a way to start their day
New breakfast items were offered along with daily menu options to encourage breakfast
Their participation in the Activity Challenge
Employees were challenged to see how much activity they accomplish in a course of a day, calculated out in steps
13 Employees calculated a total of 848,816 steps
Activities hosted throughout the week included walking, biking, dancing, gardening, basketball, vacuuming, mowing and scrubbing floors
"I have had the pleasure of working with Chartwells here in Kaukauna for the past five years. The director has acted with nothing but the best interest of the district and its students in mind," said Bob Schafer, Kaukauna Area School District financial officer.
"I have worked with Chartwells' staff over the past ten years and find the staff to be professional, effective, accountable and always open to discussing ideas on how to serve quality food to our students," said Mary Weber, director of Human Resources and Kaukauna Area School District administrator.
