Trico Charitable Foundation Announces the Winners of the 2011 Social EnterPrize Awards
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/17/11 -- Trico Charitable Foundation Executive Chairman, Mr Wayne Chiu today presented the inaugural Social EnterPrize awards to three most deserving winners. The Social EnterPrize awards are presented to one individual and two organizations demonstrating leadership and innovation in the field of social enterprise. The awards reception, featuring Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi as the keynote speaker, culminated the Enterprising Spirit conference, which attracted over 150 delegates from across Canada.
The individual Social EnterPrize was awarded to Ms. Caroline Arcand, Executive Director of Groupe Convex, which is an umbrella organization for eight social enterprises in Prescott and Russell counties in Eastern Ontario. Groupe Convex's mission is to generate meaningful jobs through business projects for area residents who face employment challenges. The EnterPrize jury singled out Ms. Arcand for her work in establishing Recycle Action which is a recycling sorting facility employing more than 130 people and serving over 30,000 households, 41 schools, 159 businesses and 5 municipalities in the two counties. Ms. Arcand will receive a $10 thousand grant for use within her organization.
The Social EnterPrize for mature organizations was awarded to Potluck Cafe and Catering of Vancouver, British Columbia. Potluck operates a neighbourhood cafe and provides professional catering services to a wide range of clients. As well, Potluck serves meals and provides job opportunities to many of Vancouver's most vulnerable residents. Between 85-90 percent of Potluck's revenues came from the catering business. Potluck Cafe and Catering will receive a two year grant totalling $60 thousand.
The Social EnterPrize for emerging organizations was awarded to Mission Possible of Vancouver, British Columbia. Mission Possible, through its social enterprise, MP Maintenance, provides property maintenance services to more to more than sixty businesses and individuals. MP Maintenance transforms lives by helping people experiencing homelessness and poverty achieve a renewed sense of dignity and purpose through meaningful work. Since opening less than two years ago, MP Maintenance has provided jobs for almost two dozen people. The organization will receive a two year grant totalling $60 thousand.
