PREVNet Introduces On-line Resource for Bullying and Violence Prevention
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/16/11 -- Front-line workers working with children, seniors, and families now have easy on-line access to effective bullying and violence prevention programs and resources. Sourced from Canada and around the world, these important on-line resources address topics such as bullying, dating violence, child abuse, and elder abuse across rural, urban, and Aboriginal communities.
"Canadians across the country now have access to on-line resources and programs proven to help promote safe and healthy relationships," said Dr. Debra Pepler, co-director of and Professor of Psychology at York University. "They can read about how these important tools have been used, and can then adapt to suit the needs and environment of their organization."
This morning, students and teachers at Ottawa's demonstrated how to access the resources on-line and discussed their own successes using the program as an example. This program showed them ways to engage students to build a healthy school environment.
"The 'Fourth R' program helped us find ways to empower our students to make healthier decisions about relationships and to avoid risky behaviours." said Richard King, Principal of Ridgemont High School. "A web portal where you can find programs proven to be successful is an invaluable resource for any school."
PREVNet and the (PHAC) collaborated to identify and ensure the wide dissemination of best practices in violence prevention to decision-makers across all sectors. PREVNet identified 38 recommended interventions to enhance knowledge in the area of prevention and treatment of violence. These interventions can be found on the Canadian Best Practices Portal at .
Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence Network (PREVNet) is a national network of 58 Canadian researchers and 50 national organizations. Launched in 2006 as a New Initiative of the Networks of Centres of Excellence, PREVNet's mandate is to eliminate violence by promoting safe and healthy relationships among Canadian children and youth.
