Enhancing Safety Procedures & Regulations Triggered by the Fukushima Dai-Ichi Incident

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 11/15/11 -- Infocast will hold the Nuclear Safety Post-Fukushima Summit at the Renaissance Dupont Circle Hotel in Washington, D.C., on December 5-7, 2011. The Japanese earthquake and subsequent tsunami triggered a worldwide examination of safety regulations and operating procedures for all nuclear power plants. Nuclear Safety Post-Fukushima will bring regulators and policy-makers together with nuclear operators and safety experts to explore the path forward for enhancing design and operational safety. This meeting represents an important step in the international efforts being undertaken to implement lessons learned.

The Fukushima Dai-Ichi incident prompted the NRC to implement seven safety recommendations from the task force it empanelled to study the reactor disaster. The recommendations cover issues including the loss of electrical power at a reactor, reviews of seismic and flooding hazards, emergency equipment and plant staff training.

Keynote presenter Commissioner William C. Ostendorff at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will kick off the event with a keynote address, "NRC Report Recommendations and the Path Forward for Nuclear Energy Regulatory Reform." Commissioner William C. Ostendorff recently stated in a report, "The accident at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant is an event that the nuclear industry and governments worldwide must learn from to ensure that we have robust nuclear safety programs."

In addition to Commissioner Ostendorff, this Summit will feature the Honorable Kenji Tateiwa from Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), Tony Pietrangelo from the Nuclear Energy Institute and James Lyons from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Attendees will be provided a complete examination of the business risks and financial implications of the Fukushima Accident on the nuclear industry. This event is not to be missed!
