University of Calgary: Cannonball! Haskayne students make a splash for United Way
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/14/11 -- What do you call a group of business students dressed in ridiculous costumes jumping into an icy cold pool of water - outside - in the middle of November? Some people might say 'crazy', but they're actually participants in the first annual Chillin' for Charity polar bear dip fundraiser at the University of Calgary.
On Tuesday, November 15, the JDC West Team Haskayne is hosting their first frosty dip, with funds raised going to support the United Way of Calgary and area. Between 11:30 am and 3 pm in parking lot 9 on the University of Calgary campus, dozens of brave participants will make the leap - as creatively as possible - into a pool of icy cold water.
Chillin' for Charity is part of JDC West, the largest student-run business competition in Western Canada. Nearly 600 students from 11 of Western Canada's top universities unite annually to compete in this competition, which is organized by and for business students. Teams compete in academic and athletic challenges, a social competition, a parliamentary-style debate, and a charity initiative.
Throughout November, all 11 JDC West teams are required to plan and execute a polar bear dip to fundraise for a local charity. Their total score at the competition in January 2012 will reflect how much money the team raised.
