The Ripple Effect Extends to LA SOIREE ONE DROP in Los Angeles
The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Kovacevic Consult Inc. and ONE DROP join forces to provide access to water in Africa
(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/10/11 -- LA SOIREE ONE DROP, a benefit event in support of access to water for all presented by Gianni Kovacevic, will take place tonight, at the Los Angeles Highlands Hollywood. Before a special performance of IRIS™ by Cirque du Soleil®, and in the presence of Guy Laliberte, Chair of ONE DROP and Founder of Cirque du Soleil, two new major donors will announce their financial commitment towards the first ONE DROP project in Africa.
With a donation of US $1.5 million over three years, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation is contributing to ONE DROP's Project Burkina Faso, which will start the implementation phase in 2012. "We believe in the integrated and sustainable approach developed by ONE DROP. That is why we are proud to be involved in the water access component of the first project of their West African cluster," said Edmund J. Cain, Vice President of Grant Programs at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. For his part, Gianni Kovacevic, presenting sponsor of LA SOIREE ONE DROP, will announce a contribution of US $500,000 for ONE DROP's following initiative in the region, Project Mali, in the next few years. "The water crisis is everyone's business. We are proud to be joining forces with ONE DROP for a new initiative in West Africa," said Gianni Kovacevic, President of Kovacevic Consult Inc.
LA SOIREE will also have raised US $300,000. Funds will be shared between ONE DROP's Project El Salvador and initiatives aiming to raise people's and communities' awareness of local and international water-related issues. More specifically, through Project El Salvador, ONE DROP seeks to improve water access and sanitation, food security and household income of the inhabitants of Cacaopera and Corinto in the Morazan department-the country's poorest region. This project will have a direct impact on some 12,000 men, women and children. It will also have an indirect effect on the lives of over 22,000 people, by way of its social arts and popular education component.
Extending the ripple effect in Los Angeles
Since its creation, ONE DROP has enabled 30,000 people to enjoy direct sustainable access to water and its benefits. ONE DROP and its partners have worked relentlessly over the past four years to raise the awareness of over a quarter of a million people with respect to the importance of water in our lives. Guy Laliberte invites citizens worldwide to take part in the ripple effect. "We put all our efforts together, one step at a time, to make the dream of water for all a reality. Tonight, in Los Angeles, we have taken another step towards the dream of water for all a relatily. I will continue reaching out to the world to make this dream of water for all a reality, one drop at a time, one step at a time, for future generations," said Guy Laliberte.
The total US $2.3 million in donations announced tonight will have a positive effect on communities benefiting from ONE DROP projects. Since 2007, a total of US $42 million in donations has been raised worldwide for ONE DROP's various initiatives.
ONE DROP will continue to spread the ripple effect in support of access to water for all in Paris, on November 23.
