Media Advisory: Watershed Tour for Community Stream Conservationists
Public Invited to Travel Cold Creek Watershed and Learn About Stream Conservation
(firmenpresse) - NORTHUMBERLAND, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/10/11 -- Landowners, local groups, agencies, and other stakeholders are invited to spend the day taking a guided tour of the Cold Creek watershed in Northumberland County. The event is being hosted by the Community Stream Steward Program (CSSP) in partnership with Lower Trent Conservation on Saturday, November 19, 2011.
Tour participants will travel by bus along the watershed, from the headwaters on the Oak Ridges Moraine, to the outlet into the Trent River at Frankford. A variety of interpreters will share their knowledge on topics such as:
"Many landowners and groups are engaged in projects on the waterway; but it is not always easy for these people to get together to discuss their shared successes and concerns," says CSSP Coordinator Andrea Hicks. "This tour is designed to provide an opportunity for these stewards to get together and look at ways to create the most effective action plan for the Cold Creek watershed."
"Cold Creek is one of the largest tributaries of the Trent River within the Lower Trent Conservation watershed. We have worked with many partners over the years to ensure the protection and enhancement of this cold water stream, but ongoing efforts are key to maintaining a healthy stream," said Glenda Rodgers, General Manager of Lower Trent Conservation.
The Cold Creek watershed is part of the beautiful landscape of Southern Ontario. The waterway supports both Brook and Brown Trout populations. The tour is being undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada provided through the federal Department of the Environment. The CSSP is a multi-partner, non-profit conservation organization that works in collaboration with landowners, volunteers and community groups to restore protect and enhance streams throughout the region. The program is hosted by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH).
