1st-Air.Net Reports Its Back to Business for Business Class Travel
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 11/07/11 -- reports several international carriers have removed their lowest business class fares during the peak business travel season, drawing a clear line on when and by whom sale fares are to be used. Discounted sale fares, intended for leisure travelers, are currently only being offered over Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday. This updated pricing strategy is designed to keep leisure oriented sale fares out of the reach of business travelers.
During the depths of the recession, fare rules that prevented business travelers from taking advantage of leisure oriented fares were relaxed in order to stimulate demand. Examples included reducing the advance purchase requirements from 50 days to as few as 7 days and removal of the Saturday night stay requirement. These rules are back, and most carriers have either raised or removed discounted business class fares when demand is seasonally strong to prevent cannibalization.
Business class fares to Europe or Asia have risen by more than 50% in some markets compared with the same time last year. Redeeming miles to lower travel costs is an option, but several carriers will restrict the inventories required to execute award travel until a few days or hours before a flights scheduled departure. Travelers booking travel 30 days or more before their desired departure date will find using miles a nerve racking experience.
The most lucrative business class deals to Europe can be found over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. For example, is offering roundtrip business class fares between the east coast and Europe from just $960 + taxes during Thanksgiving (November 20th-30th). The same business class fare for travel beginning the first week of December (when the business traveler returns) starts at $4075 + taxes. Similar offers are also available over the Christmas holiday. is also offering its lowest business class fares to between the U.S. and Australia, starting at $5,338 plus taxes, for travel between December 21st, 2011 and January 4th, 2012. Fares at other times start at $6,938 plus taxes, a 23% increase. is offering special holiday fares at up to 50% savings to Asia, Australia and Europe.
Leisure travelers that plan their trips around Thanksgiving and Christmas can still find amazing business class deals. International travelers flying during the business travel season can expect substantially higher fares as they compete for seat inventories with institutional premium cabin buyers. Continued consolidation within the industry, reduced capacity, and rising energy costs makes the trend for higher fares likely to continue into 2012.
