Minister Kenney Issues Statement to Recognize Eid al-Adha
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/06/11 -- The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement to recognize Eid al-Adha:
"This Sunday at sunset, Muslims in Canada and around the world will celebrate one of the most important holidays of their faith, Eid al-Adha.
"Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is the second of two Eid celebrations. It follows Eid al-Fitr, the Breaking of the Fast.
"Eid-al Adha is held for four days during the month of Dhul Hijja. During this month, Muslims undertake the Hajj - the pilgrimage to Mecca that all Muslims must perform at least once in their lifetime.
"During this time, many Muslims gather for special prayer services. Many will also visit family and friends, exchange gifts and make donations to the needy. Eid al-Adha is also a time for forgiveness and compassion.
"As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I want to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes for a happy Eid al-Adha to all Canadian Muslims.
"Eid Mubarak."
