Strength in Numbers: PIPSC Votes to Join the Canadian Labour Congress
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/05/11 -- In line with its strategy of developing partnerships with other bargaining agents, the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) voted today to join the ranks of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). Over 400 PIPSC delegates to the Institute's 92nd Annual General Meeting currently being held in Ottawa participated in the ballot.
"This is an important landmark in the history of our organization", said PIPSC President Gary Corbett. "In today's difficult economic times, our members are facing an increasingly complex labour environment, as well as a sustained attack on the part of the government and its supporters in the business community. This decision complements our existing approach of reaching out to like-minded individuals and organizations committed to defending the Public Good, and who are as concerned as we are about the erosion of public services and the economic and social impact of job losses on communities across the country".
Since its creation in 1920, PIPSC has remained an unaffiliated bargaining agent. By working within the CLC framework, PIPSC will retain its independence but will have access to additional resources and knowledge, to the benefit of its members.
The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada represents some 60,000 professionals and scientists across Canada's public sector.
