PIPSC Members Defend the Interests of all Canadians at 92nd Annual General Meeting November 4-5, 2011
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/04/11 -- As the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) holds its 92nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Delta City Centre in Ottawa, hundreds of delegates gather today to celebrate union solidarity and to express their determination to protect the Public Good and the interests of all Canadians.
"At a time of unrelenting attacks on the part of the government and its supporters, this Annual General Meeting demonstrates, more than ever, the energy and relevance of public sector unions", declared Institute President Gary Corbett. "Our members remain wholly dedicated to delivering the highest-quality services to Canadians, despite our employer's attempt to make them the scapegoat for its poor track record. Canadians can distinguish fact from fiction and they aren't fooled by the government's grandstanding", he continued.
The delegates, who represent Institute members across Canada and across the professions, will meet over two days to discuss how best to meet the expectations of Canadians, at a time of drastic personnel and financial constraints imposed by the government with little regard for the impact they have on the country's economic and social fabric.
"These are serious matters that help define the sort of Canada that we want to build and leave to our children. We will be taking our message straight to Parliament Hill later today, not only to raise awareness of the value of the public service, but to let the government know that we are ready to stand up for the people that we represent and for all Canadians", concluded Corbett.
The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada represents some 60,000 professionals and scientists across Canada's public sector.
