California Water Policy, Finance Examined at ACWA Conference

Statewide Event Set for Nov. 29-Dec. 2 in Anaheim

(firmenpresse) - SACRAMENTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/03/11 -- California water policy and financing infrastructure improvements in a down economy will be in focus at the Association of California Water Agencies' (ACWA) 2011 Fall Conference & Exhibition at the Anaheim Marriott Nov. 29-Dec. 2. More than 1,700 local water leaders are expected to attend the event, themed "Financing Our Future."

U.S. District Court Judge Oliver Wanger will address attendees during a not-to-be-missed luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 1. Wanger, who stepped down in September after more than 20 years on the bench, has ruled on some of the most important and high-profile cases involving environmental regulations and the operation of the state's major water projects. He will share his observations and insights on California water and the need for solutions.

At a luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 30, pollster Mark DiCamillo of the Field Research Corporation will delve into the current economy and mood of Californians, and share insights into voter sentiment on taxes, fees, jobs and views on public works spending in today's climate.

Water quality expert Edward Means will keynote the opening breakfast on Nov. 30. A vice president with Malcolm Pirnie / ARCADIS in Irvine, Means will shed light on public perceptions and the value of the water consumers receive.

On Friday, Dec. 2, California Forward Executive Director James Mayer will offer his organization's vision for getting the state back on track at the Hans Doe Forum Breakfast. Proposals include increasing efficiency, improving regional collaboration and producing better results for taxpayers and those who rely on government services.

A number of other exciting programs and events will be offered, including a town hall discussion on the Delta Plan and a water debate on fees as a financing mechanism.

ACWA will also present its 2011 Emissary Award during the three-day conference.
