Verizon Wireless was selected for its largest 4G LTE network and largest, most reliable 3G network in America
announced today that it has been selected as the network of choice for , developer of a product that measures a driver's Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) that is required to be installed in the vehicles of convicted DWI offenders. The data obtained from the product in the vehicle will be wirelessly transferred in real-time over the Verizon Wireless network.
"We were blown away by how fast our ignition interlock devices communicated with both the network and with our servers," said John Ruocco, CEO, Interceptor Ignition Interlock Inc. "In our business, almost everything happens in real-time and having a fast reliable network is key to our success. We also needed a wireless provider that offers nationwide coverage at a great value. The Verizon team gave us exactly what we hoped for and we're looking forward to working with them."
Interceptor Ignition Interlocks is a manufacturer of automotive safety and security products. They have developed a product that convicted DWI offenders must use prior to starting their vehicle. The device records BAC levels, the car's GPS location and captures an image of the driver using the product. The information is then sent over the Verizon Wireless network to Interceptor's data center via a wireless modem which is installed in the vehicle. To prevent drinking while driving, once the vehicle is started, the driver will be required to blow into the device again at random times during their drive. If the driver fails the test, they will be prompted to pull the vehicle over and shut it off. If not complied with, the vehicle's headlights will begin to flash, the horn will honk and 911 operators will be notified immediately with GPS location of the vehicle.
"When Interceptor reached out to us and explained what they need our network for, we knew that they would not only need fast speeds but also reliability," said Pat Devlin, president of Verizon Wireless, New York Metro Region. "We're proud to say that we can offer both, to our business and consumer customers alike. Interceptor contributes to the safety of our roads and we are very happy to contribute to their success."
Last year, Verizon Wireless launched a , giving enterprise customers near real-time access to monitor M2M wireless devices. Through the service, customers can access the platform directly through or the . Verizon Wireless has set up the service for Interceptor which will allow them to quickly activate, suspend and monitor devices that are mobile.
