(firmenpresse) - BANFF, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/31/11 -- As part of Parks Canada's national centennial celebrations, the Government of Canada is proud to partner with the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival to promote understanding and appreciation of the world's mountain places.

"The Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival is internationally recognized. For the past 35 years this major event has featured the world's best cinema and books on mountain subjects from world-renowned filmmakers, authors and creators," said the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada. "This is a unique opportunity to enhance Canadian natural and cultural heritage."

In 2011-2012 the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and Canada & United States Tour will bring approximately 370 film screenings to more than 200 communities of all sizes across Canada and the United States reaching a live audience of more than 150,000 outdoor, adventure and film enthusiasts. The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour spans the globe reaching more than 248,000 viewers across 31 countries and seven continents.

"Parks Canada is proud to collaborate, again this year, in the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and Canada & United States Tour presented by The Banff Centre," said Blake Richards, Member of Parliament for Wild Rose. "This flagship program of The Banff Centre is a major player in the artistic scene and economic development of Canadian mountain culture."

The public is invited to attend and engage in discussions with different Parks Canada specialists who will be presenters at the Festival. These include the safety specialists from Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks who respond to more mountain rescue calls than anyone in Canada; the contributors to the National Geographic guide book on the National Parks of Canada and the leader of the park establishment team that helped earn Parks Canada the "Gift to the Earth" award from the WWF International in 2011 for its conservation work of outstanding global merit.

Parks Canada works to ensure Canada's historic and natural heritage is protected and, through a network of 43 national parks, 167 national historic sites, and four national marine conservation areas, invites Canadians and people around the world to engage in personal moments of inspiring discovery at our treasured natural and historic places.
