Christi Millar, Director for Canadian Youth Business Foundation in Alberta (CYBF), will share how CYBF is using social media to create excitement for YOU Innovate Canada - and the role social media can play in inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is the 'go to' place for youth entrepreneurship in Canada; an organization dedicated to growing our nation's economy one entrepreneur at a time. In honour of Global Entrepreneurship Week (November 14-20), CYBF has launched YOU Innovate Canada - a national tournament that challenges Canadians to create value out of almost nothing at all... a coffee cup! At the centre of YOU Innovate Canada is the notion that the spark of a great business idea comes from looking at an ordinary thing in an extraordinary way. In the spirit of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the tournament will encourage Canadians to embrace their 'inner entrepreneur' and inspire them to consider entrepreneurship as an exciting and rewarding way of life. About the guest speaker:
Christi Millar
Christi joined CYBF as the Alberta Director in April 2010 - and to her, the role is a dream come true. It allows her to combine the communications experience she gained at Weber Shandwick Worldwide with her extensive background working with entrepreneurs through previous roles with Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Education Development of PEI (CEED PEI) and the Central Development Corporation.
Christi became passionate about promoting entrepreneurship early in her career. Her first internship involved developing a curriculum for eight to 13 year olds that introduced them to the world of business and entrepreneurship. The program allowed youth to launch successful summer businesses and Christi was inspired by the sense of empowerment experienced by those entrepreneurs. Since then, it has been important to her that individuals know that they can take what they are passionate about and turn it into a business; that they can create opportunities for themselves, their communities and have a positive impact on the economy.
