Travel Advantage Network Employees Support Practical Compassion
(firmenpresse) - MILLERSVILLE, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 10/18/11 -- Employees of (TAN), raised $1,946 during a month-long fundraising initiative for the non-profit organization, .
Travel Advantage Network is a Baltimore-area company that actively supports charitable work by hosting an employee-selected charity each month for which to raise funds. This past month Fred Windholz, Manager in TAN's Account Management department, personally selected Practical Compassion because of his particular involvement with this organization. Fred Windholz serves as President of the board of the charity, which does work exclusively in the country of Haiti.
Practical Compassion is a nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers. Their primary focus is to provide Haitian children, who cannot afford to attend school, an opportunity to receive an education. Their most recent project was a school in rural Pont Sonde. Practical Compassion built an addition to provide classes up to the 12th grade, supplied financial support for operating, and created a program to serve every student one hot meal each school day. In addition, Practical Compassion also helps to provide medical care, food, housing and jobs throughout Haiti.
"With the school building project just completed, the funds raised at TAN will provide the needed school desks and chalk boards to be constructed for the new classrooms," stated Fred Windholz. "This new school will provide an opportunity in this rural community for the children to receive a quality education. Prior to this, the children, whose families could afford it, would have to send them to a school in a neighboring town many miles away."
In order to raise funds, employees participated in the following activities: pay-to-wear-jeans days, a 50/50 raffle, a bake sale, "Practical Compassion" wristband sale, a silent auction and a cook out in the company's parking lot. All proceeds went to Practical Compassion.
