Russell Global Stability Indexes: Russell Defensive Indexes Outperform Russell Dynamic Indexes in the U.S. and Globally YTD Through October 14
(firmenpresse) - SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/18/11 -- Globally, the Russell Defensive Indexes outperformed the Russell Dynamic Indexes year-to-date (through October 14). The Russell Global Defensive Index lost (-0.7%), while the Russell Global Dynamic Index lost (-14.1%). Conversely, the Russell 1000 Defensive Index gained 4.3%, outperforming its Dynamic counterpart which lost (-7.5%) for the same time period.
Month-to-date through October 14, all Defensive and Dynamic Indexes reflected positive returns with the Russell 1000 Defensive & Dynamic Indexes outperforming the Global Defensive and Dynamic Indexes. The Russell 1000 Dynamic Index gained 10.7%, outperforming the Russell Global Dynamic index which gained 8.6%. The Russell 1000 Defensive Index gained 6.6%, outperforming the Global Defensive Index which gained 6.4%.
The Russell Defensive and Dynamic Indexes split the broad equity market in half based on a combination of stability factors; the more stable half of the market is called "Defensive" and the less stable half is called "Dynamic." The new Russell Global Defensive and Dynamic Indexes follow the same global-relative composition as the Russell Global Indexes. Stocks are ranked by sector and style across regions, rather than country-by-country, to better reflect how investors now approach the global markets.
The Russell Global Index includes more than 10,000 securities in 48 countries and covers 98% of the investable global market. All securities in the index are classified according to size, region, country and sector. Daily Returns for the main components are available here:
