Embedded systems, from mobile devices to low powered sensor networks, are becoming new members of the "Internet of Things," adding features such as field upgrade, remote management, and application downloads. The growth of these new devices adds further pressure to the nearly exhausted IPv4 address space. New cellular networks protocols, such as LTE, and personal area network protocols, such as 6LoWPAN, have IPv6 at their core in order to support this increasingly interconnected world. This class starts by talking about the reasons for the growth in IPv6 interest and customer requirements over the last year. It talks about the technical details of IPv6 in relation to traditional IPv4 networking. It then explores how to add and support IPv6 at the system level and at the application level.
