Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, unveiled a national campaign designed to actively engage Canadians and youth in remembrance. The Minister launched the campaign with Canadian Forces members, teachers and students during a special event held at Marcelle-Mallet Secondaire Prive, in Levis, Quebec.

"As Veterans' Week approaches, we are encouraging Canadians, especially youth, to remember the achievements and contributions of our Veterans," said Minister Blaney. "Our Veterans are ordinary people who have accomplished extraordinary things in order to protect our values of democracy, liberty, and the rule of law. Our Government is proud to unveil a campaign that ensures the sacrifices of our Veterans will not be forgotten."

Over the next few weeks, the campaign will reach out to Canadians through television and online advertising, as well as social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Media partnerships with popular youth stations MUCH (English) and Astral (French) will further reach key audiences including Canadian youth and young Canadian Forces members and Veterans. The partnership with MUCH and Astral will include both television and online promotional opportunities.

In addition, the highly successful mobile app from last year's campaign will be updated and launched in the days leading up to Remembrance Day to provide mobile phone users with easy access to information about services, benefits and local commemorative events.

Finally, Canadians can participate in an innovate virtual salute to Veterans by adding a poppy to their Facebook profile picture or Twitter avatar, in order to visually share the message of remembrance with millions of others during Veterans' Week.

During today's event, Minister Blaney provided students with a DVD of images and video clips and encouraged them to create their own remembrance videos and share with other youth by posting them online.

"With your support, the legacy of all those men and women who served our country will stay alive. This is our history and we have a responsibility to remember-not just during Veterans' Week but throughout the year," said Minister Blaney.

The needs of Veterans are changing. It is happening now, and it is happening quickly. The Government of Canada is improving financial support for thousands of Canadian Veterans.
