Public Safety Minister Vic Toews Tours RCMP "Depot" Training Facility
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/14/11 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, issued the following statement after his visit to Regina this week where he toured the recently renovated RCMP Depot training facility and met with RCMP officers in training.
"It was a privilege for me to meet with the men and women who - through their dedication and courage - are helping Canadians feel safe in their communities," said Minister Toews. "I was very impressed with the enthusiasm of the RCMP cadets I spoke with today. They have chosen a worthwhile and important career that will contribute enormously to the quality of life of Canadians.
"Our Government is committed to giving our police the tools and resources they need to keep our streets and communities safe. Since 2006, we have provided funding to help the RCMP upgrade and expand its infrastructure, including the Depot training facility in Regina," said Minister Toews. "I am very pleased that, due to Government investments, the RCMP has been able to improve its state-of-the-art training facility, ensuring that cadets develop and maintain the skills required to protect Canadians."
Minister Toews' trip to Regina was one of several visits he has made to RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) operations over the last few months in order to experience the work undertaken by law-enforcement officers across the country.
Since mid-summer, Minister Toews has joined RCMP officers for a ride-along in Moncton, New Brunswick, and toured the RCMP Border Integrity Operations Centre in Surrey, B.C., where officials use state-of-the-art technology to secure the Canada-U.S. border. He has also toured the CBSA's operations at the Ambassador Bridge Point of Entry in Windsor, the Pacific Highway Commercial Operations Point of Entry in Surrey, and Pearson International Airport in Toronto.
