Moog Celebrates First Delivery of Boeing 747-8 Freighter to Cargolux

The Boeing Company delivered the first 747-8 Freighter to launch customer Cargolux at Boeing's Paine Field in Everett, WA on October 12th. Cargolux flew the plane away in the morning and put the plane immediately into revenue service.

For nearly 30 years Moog has been a major supplier of flight control actuators to Boeing for their commercial aircraft product line. On the 747-8, Boeing selected Moog to provide the Lateral Control Electronics for the fly-by-wire ailerons and spoilers on the aircraft's new aerodynamic wing. While Moog has supplied flight control computers and flight critical software to other airplane manufacturers as part of an actuation system, this was the first time Moog provided this capability to Boeing for a commercial transport.
The Lateral Control Electronics feature a dual triplex dissimilar architecture. It hosts the flight control laws for the fly-by-wire wing and includes a number of enhanced features to improve flight performance, extend aircraft structural life and provide improved fault tolerance.
The 747-8 Freighter is the new high-capacity 747. It provides cargo operators with the lowest operating costs and best economics of any freighter airplane while providing enhanced environmental performance. It also provides customers with 16 percent more revenue cargo volume compared to its predecessor. Additional information about the first delivery can be found at .
