Minister of State Bernier Concludes Successful Visit to China and South Korea
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/14/11 -- The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), has concluded his visit to China and South Korea, where he promoted Canada as a premier destination for travellers from Asia.
"Our tourism industry must capitalize on new opportunities within the Asian market to remain competitive on the world stage," said Minister of State Bernier. "Visits like this one are critical because emerging travel markets offer significant potential for attracting more visitors to Canada."
During his visit, the Minister of State attended Showcase Canada-Asia 2011, the most important tourism business development event for Canada in the region. The Showcase brought together tourism buyers and sellers from Canada, China, Japan, India and South Korea to network, make connections and advance their specific business interests.
Minister of State Bernier participated in round-table discussions with tourism operators and industry representatives in Beijing, China, and Seoul and Busan, South Korea, in an effort to better understand the needs of Chinese, South Korean and Indian tourists. He also met with representatives from Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises operating in Asia.
"The Asian travel market presents a great economic opportunity to help build the tourism industry in Canada," said Minister of State Bernier. "This is one example of how the Federal Tourism Strategy is helping Canada's tourism sector take advantage of growth opportunities, increase tourism revenues and create jobs in all regions of Canada."
