Minister Raitt Announces an Appointment to Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/13/11 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, today announced the appointment of Ms. Sophie Dennis as the representative of the Province of Ontario to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), effective immediately.
"Ms. Dennis' depth of knowledge and extensive practical experience in the field of occupational health and safety will be an asset to the Centre," said Minister Raitt.
Ms. Dennis has worked in the field of occupational health and safety in the workplace for more than 20 years. Since November 2007, she has been the Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations, Ontario Ministry of Labour, responsible for delivery of occupational health and safety programs to all industries and communities across Ontario. During her career she held many senior positions in the Ontario Ministry of Labour.
Ms. Dennis studied at Queen's University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. She also received a Canadian Management Accountant diploma from McMaster University as well as a Labour Relations Certificate from Mohawk College.
The CCOHS, located in Hamilton, Ontario, was created in 1978 to promote the fundamental right of Canadians to a healthy and safe working environment. Governed by a tripartite council representing the federal, provincial and territorial governments, employers and workers, the Centre provides Canadians with unbiased and relevant information that supports responsible decision making on health and safety issues in the workplace.
