The first annual festival features 22 stand-up comics, as well as improv comedians, including Edmonton's Canadian Comedy Award nominee, Die-Nasty the Live, Improvised Soap Opera.

Edmonton talent features front and centre in the festival: kicking the fun off on Wednesday, October 19th is the Edmonton Homecoming Gala Show, featuring home grown Edmontonian and Albertan comedic stars. Each of these acts is a hard-hitting headliner featured in his own comedy TV special.

Throughout the week festival goers will yuk it up with top entertainers such as , Debra DiGiovanni, , Kevin Stobo, Sean Lecomber, and many others. The original Unknown Comic from TV's Gong Show fame will perform on Thursday, October 20, hosting a show called the 'The Baby Boomers', a hilarious trip down memory lane.

Comedic great, Joe Flaherty of SCTV fame, performs as his infamous comic character, Count Floyd at 'Count Floyd's Monster Chiller Horror Party in 3D' at Edmonton's celebrated . Founded in 1965 in the heart of downtown Edmonton, the Citadel is comprised of five theatres with a seating capacity of nearly 2000 seats. As well as music and munchies, the Citadel's comedy party extravaganza features a 3D movie and of course, 3D glasses. "SCTV flourished here in Edmonton," says Festival Co-founder, Graham Neil. "Joe still has a huge soft spot for this city."

The came to life when Neil joined forces with Edmonton stand-up comic Andrew Grose, who has been on Just for Laughs eight times. The pair performed together and immediately saw the potential in marshalling Edmonton's comedic talent. "We saw all these talented comics around us here - and yet there was no home base for them," says Neil. "The ball kind of started rolling from there."

The Comedy Festival home base is the downtown core, though a variety of shows are scheduled throughout the city and St. Albert. Gala shows take place in the Citadel's Maclab Theatre. Die-Nasty shows are set for the Citadel's Rice Theatre and will give audiences a chance to take in Edmonton's world class improv scene that includes Rapid Fire Theatre, the city's longest running improv show, as well as Improvaganza, Canada's largest improv festival.

"The downtown is perfect for having several venues all in one area," says Neil. "We want it to come alive. We would love to have that same feeling as the Grey Cup where the Comedy Festival just takes over the downtown," says Neil.

Neil sums it up: "Edmonton is festival city - we have Lit Fest, Street Performers Fest, the Folk Festival, and many others. The just fits in - and we think we have some great, talented comedians here. We want people to come and say 'I'm gonna laugh all weekend.'"
