Ideal Sod Farm to Close and Auction Equipment as Owner Higgs Retires
(firmenpresse) - PASCO, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/12/11 -- Over the past 24 years, Greg Higgs has delivered enough sod to cover 2,600 football fields. But now, Higgs is retiring and closing his well-known business, Ideal Sod. Higgs will sell the sod farm's equipment in an auction on Friday, Nov. 4, according to Chuck Yarbro Jr., whose firm will market the equipment.
"Ideal Sod Farm has become known throughout the Northwest for the consistent quality of its sod since Greg founded the company in 1987, but he's ready to let it go," said Yarbro, of .
The auction, set for 10 a.m., will include the company's fleet of trucks, flatbed trailers with mounted forklifts, all-terrain diesel forklifts, tractors, tillage, and other equipment for turf production and installation.
"All of this equipment will continue to operate on the farm up until its last day on Oct. 28. Everything has been carefully maintained by qualified mechanics, and we will be available Nov. 2-3 to let people inspect and crank each piece," said Yarbro.
Higgs first began working with turf grass in 1973 with a particular interest in growing sod that was free of both diseases and pests.
"Greg especially set himself -- and his business -- apart with a guarantee nobody else in the industry could match, and the company further expanded its reputation by becoming one of the area's most reliable sources of information on lawn installation and maintenance. All of that has made Ideal Sod something of an institution in the Tri-Cities area and well as throughout the Northwest," said Yarbro. "He's also been a role model by raising the quality bar, which I think has resulted in better quality from other sod providers as well."
