New Name Signals Final Piece of Award-Winning Company's Evolution to a Multi-Disciplinary Design Practice

Based in San Francisco -- and with offices in Los Angeles and Delhi, India -- RAPT STUDIO designs cohesive and elegant user experiences for the globe's top brands, including VF Corporation, the world's largest apparel company (Vans, The North Face, Reef, JanSport, 7 For All Mankind, etc.), Sony, Google, Apple, Disney, Adobe and Salesforce.com.
The practice has specialized in interior and architectural design for both the built environment and the digital world, but now RAPT is expanding to initially include environmental graphics and brand design. Offering more design options to clients is based on the belief that cohesive design can help companies innovate and solve the problems they face every day. It's about using design to bring meaningful spaces, brands, cultures and environments together.
"This change is basically the name catching up with the brand and the last piece of a five-year transition process," said David Galullo, RAPT STUDIO's design principal and CEO, who stepped into the top seat after 12 years at the firm, replacing Richard Pollack, the company's founder. "The new name evokes a sense of boldness and spirit that defines who we are and what we do. We have evolved and the new name signals the new brand and our passion for design at every level."
For RAPT, design that innovates and solves real business needs comes from taking a unique approach to the way its designers create. It's an inside-out philosophy based on the understanding developed through long-term client relationships.
"Far too often, designers set about to solve a problem that they haven't bothered to fully define," said Galullo. "We spend a lot of time defining the problem and identifying the unique culture of the client within which the solution will live. Sounds obvious, but it's not."
RAPT STUDIO's multi-disciplinary teams include talented designers with different backgrounds and expertise, e.g., interior designers, architects, graphic, user experience/interface and industrial designers. This provides a cohesive and seamless design offering for clients looking to integrate different creative solutions without having to contract multiple firms.
Pollack Architecture was established in 1985 by Richard Pollack. Earlier this year, the practice announced that Pollack would be moving into the next stage of his career, creating a consulting business. He will remain a principal at RAPT STUDIO until 2012.
