New York City Celebrates Argentina With Wine and Tango
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 10/12/11 -- Jose Luis Perez-Gabilondo, the Ambassador of Argentina, is hosting an evening to celebrate Argentina with wine and tango on Tuesday, October 11th. Tango has become an icon in Argentina's cultural heritage. It is an experience, with song and dance, that is recognized worldwide.
The cocktail will be hosted in the historic Altman Building. It will feature a tasting from six wineries -- Luigi Bosca, Trapiche, Michael Torino, Alamos, Rutini, Zorzal -- to accompany the live tango performance by the renowned Mederos Trio, in a typical café concerto manner.
The Malbec and Torrontes that will be tasted are Argentina's signature red and white wines. "Argentina's wine industry has grown unprecedentedly, expanding exports to the United States by 1000% in the last ten years," notes Ambassador Perez-Gabilondo. "To be the fifth largest exporter to the United States," he added, "is an immense accomplishment."
Both Argentine wine and tango have increased in popularity. Tango emerged in 1880, and has grown in prominence as an art form. Today, tango's National Day is celebrated on December 11th, and is listed on the UNESCO cultural world heritage list. Among the tango legends is Rodolfo Mederos, who will be playing in the live show. Over the course of four decades, Mederos has released 17 critically acclaimed albums.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Argentine Republic and the Consulate General of Argentina, with the support of Wines of Argentina and the Argentine National Institute of Tourism Promotion.
