Houston Business Leader Clyde Bryan Announces His Candidacy for the Houston City Council District G
Angered by the Response to Untested Rape Kits Within the Houston Police Department and Rising Taxes, Bryan Challenges Incumbent and Makes Public Safety His Priority
(firmenpresse) - HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 10/10/11 -- Clyde Bryan, a west Houston business leader and third-generation Houstonian, filed as a candidate for Houston City Council District G on September 7, 2011 -- opposing incumbent Oliver Pennington, a retired municipal bond attorney.
Running unopposed until final filing deadline, Pennington's response regarding the nearly 15,000 untested rape kits within the Houston Police Department and position on additional tax increases prompted Bryan to get involved.
According to reports, Pennington failed to attend a debate scheduled between Bryan and himself on , which was hosted by the League of Women Voters.
And at a recent meeting he had no knowledge of the 15,000 at the Houston Police Department.
Bryan was immediately endorsed by a number of and a growing list of notable community leaders.
"While ignoring public safety and the security of families in District G, Oliver Pennington supported Proposition One, the largest tax increase in the city's history during the worst recession in the city since the Great Depression," said Clyde Bryan.
"Pennington also voted on a measure that more than related to construction in the city. I have fought against both of these measures as a citizen activist," added Bryan.
Clyde Bryan is the president of The Executive Council and vice president of Highlights Electrical. He is also a board member and sits on the Government Affairs Committee of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce.
Bryan is Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee of the I.E.C. Texas Gulf Coast and a Finance Committee Member of the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.
