Primus Australia Unveils Its State-of-the-Art Business Fibre Network Called "Primus Metro Fibre"
Announces First Phase Launch of Its Next Generation OTN/DWDM* High Capacity Fibre Network in Sydney and Melbourne
(firmenpresse) - MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/06/11 -- Primus Australia, part of PTGI (Primus Telecommunications Group, Inc. ) (NYSE: PTGI), today announced it has completed the first stage of its fibre network transformation, introducing Optical Transport Network (OTN) capabilities to its existing High Capacity fibre rings in Australia.
The enhancements, which are initially focused in Sydney and Melbourne, include the implementation of a next-generation OTN/DWDM network to aggregate lower bandwidth services and optimise fibre utilisation. Additional near term plans include further optimisation of the technology through the development of state-of-the-art products and services, with an immediate focus on the expansion of its commercial product offerings.
Future plans expand these capabilities beyond Sydney and Melbourne into the top five capital cities in the country. Primus Australia anticipates this phase of development will allow the Company to lead the competition and introduce new advanced lightwave products and services to commercial, enterprise and Government customers.
Telecom customers, such as data centres and financial institutions who have been seeking reliable, low latency fibre access not only within local markets, but intercity throughout Australia, will have a superior solution available for their data traffic. Primus Metro Fibre is designed to deliver state of the art, high capacity data services that will be both cost effective and efficient through the redundant ring architecture.
The upgraded and enhanced OTN network will use the Huawei OSN 8800 platform which will allow the delivery of high speed, low latency inter-capital bandwidth built on the shortest routes available, tying the entire network together on a single Transport Platform. When completed the OTN will enable leading edge Point-to-Point intercity service offerings, including SDH/SONET, Ethernet, and Low-Latency Ethernet (layer 1) services.
Primus Australia CEO Tom Mazerski stated: "We are very proud of the work we have done to bring our new network from the original designs, through to fruition with our first customers coming online this quarter. Primus Metro Fibre will now be positioned to penetrate new market segments in the key capital cities through offerings of high demand, leading edge products and services."
Peter Rossi, CTO of Huawei Australia, commented: "Huawei's state-of-the-art OTN network technology will allow for optimisation of current IP Traffic across the Primus network, ultimately enhancing the end-user experience."
