St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and CAW-Canada Reach Tentative Agreements
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/03/11 -- Today the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and the National Automobile, Aerospace, Transportation and General Workers Union of Canada (CAW-Canada) for successfully reaching agreements with three bargaining groups. The new tentative agreements will cover units of approximately 47 supervisors, 340 operations and maintenance employees, and 15 headquarters personnel.
"With the global economy still being very fragile, our Government is committed to protecting Canada's economy and Canadian jobs," said Minister Raitt. "I am pleased that the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and CAW-Canada worked together to reach these new agreements."
Negotiated agreements are in the best interest of the organization, employees, businesses and the Canadian economy. The agreements, which are subject to ratification by union members, were reached with the assistance of a mediator from the Government of Canada's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The previous collective agreements expired on March 31, 2011.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
