ID: 1041689

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/03/11 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, today signalled the start of Cyber Security Awareness Month and launched Get Cyber Safe, the Government of Canada's national public awareness campaign on cyber security.

"As we enter Cyber Security Awareness Month, our Government is pleased to be launching Get Cyber Safe." said Minister Toews. "Cyber security is a shared responsibility, we all have a role to play. Get Cyber Safe encourages Canadians to take action, and provides them with the information they need to protect themselves and their families against a wide range of online threats."

Get Cyber Safe will reach out to Canadians across the country throughout October and beyond through GetCyberSafe.ca, a single-window source of information to help Canadians stay safe online.

Get Cyber Safe is a key component of , the Government of Canada's comprehensive response to the challenge of cyber security. The Strategy, launched in October 2010, is Canada's plan for preventing, minimizing and addressing the impact of cyber threats.

"Our Government continues its efforts to help secure Canada's cyber systems and protect Canadians online," said Minister Toews. "Canada's Cyber Security Strategy represents the Government's policy - and its commitment - to keep Canadians safe in cyberspace, and to keep Canada safe, secure and prosperous."

As cyber security has become an increasingly important global issue, Canada continues to cooperate closely with provincial and territorial, international, private sector and other partners in sharing this responsibility. Government and business leaders promote Cyber Security Awareness Month each October to remind individuals how to protect themselves and to guard against cyber threats.
