Retired Kansas Grandmother Beats Out the Competition for $3,500 Grand Prize Shopping Spree

Participants badly in need of a home makeover competed for a $3,500 furniture shopping spree and, while the competition was stiff, Ashley is proud to announce that Barbara E., a retired grandmother from Junction City, Kansas, is the Grand Prize Winner.
Thousands of contestants uploaded images of their beaten up, mismatched, hand-me-down or outdated furniture as their families and friends cast votes for the most deserving submission. But after hundreds of votes and a very compelling argument, Barbara took home the Grand Prize.
"My chair was bought at Goodwill for three dollars (laughs) and my couch was used for $100... I've probably had it about, oh, 10-15 years," says Barbara, who raised four kids, two grandchildren, two great nieces and helped support American soldiers during her 32-year career with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. "I thank God that I've got good health, and I can see and still drive, you know that's important."
Aside from being grateful for the little things, Barbara can't wait to enjoy her new furniture.
Ashley also wants to congratulate its second- and third-place winners, Dina A. (Columbia, MO) and Timi L. (Huntington, WV), who each received a $500 gift certificate to their neighborhood .
