La Soiree One Drop, As Part of the Premiere Gala of Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil(R), Raises Funds in Support of One Drop's Project El Salvador
(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 10/02/11 -- LA SOIREE ONE DROP, a benefit event in support of water for all, took place this evening to coincide with the premiere gala of Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour™, the brand new show by Cirque du Soleil®. Attended by Guy Laliberte, Chair of ONE DROP and Founder of Cirque du Soleil; Garou, proud spokesperson of ONE DROP; and Maud Fontenoy, ambassador for ONE DROP France and UNESCO spokesperson for the oceans, the event raised a total of $ 750 000. Proceeds from LA SOIREE will contribute to financing ONE DROP's Project El Salvador and help raise individual and community awareness of water-related issues, both on local and international level.
More specifically, through its Project El Salvador, ONE DROP seeks to improve the quality of life and earning power of the inhabitants of Cacaopera and Corinto in the Morazan department-the country's poorest region. This initiative will directly impact some 12,000 men, women and children. It will furthermore affect the lives of more than 22,000 individuals indirectly through the project's social art and popular education program.
"ONE DROP acts as an agent of change by joining forces with local organizations to help improve living conditions and reduce poverty in El Salvador," Guy Laliberte declared. "There is still much to be done on an individual and collective level before this dream of water for all becomes a reality-one step at a time in solidarity. This evening in Montreal, we have taken another step towards the dream of water for all-a source of life and a creative force for development. Water, a creative force for development
ONE DROP and its loyal partners have worked relentlessly over the last three years to directly raise the awareness of a quarter of a million people with respect to the importance of water in our lives. Since the creation of ONE DROP, some 25,000 people now enjoy direct access to water and its benefits. A total of $41 million in donations has been collected from every part of the world.
LA SOIREE ONE DROP in Montreal: A show of solidarity
LA SOIREE was an opportunity to support ONE DROP while celebrating the world premiere of Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour, the latest creation from Cirque du Soleil. This extraordinary event took place at Hotel le Crystal and was attended by Genevieve Borne, Andree Watters, Sylvain Cossette, Ima, Mitsou, Marie-Saint Pierre, Stephane Quintal and Eric Lapointe. ONE DROP is pleased to be able to count on the generosity of its founding partners, Cirque du Soleil and Royal Bank of Canada, as well as the support of Air Canada and Hotel Le Crystal.
LA SOIREE ONE DROP will continue to spread the ripple effect in favour of access to water for all at similar events in Los Angeles on November 10, Paris on November 23 and Las Vegas on December 3.
