Minister Ritz Encourages Donations of Great Canadian Food to Those in Need
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/30/11 -- In the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz is challenging Canadians to donate some great Canadian agriculture products to their local food bank.
"Canadian farmers, including our turkey farmers, produce some of the best food in the world - and for that we are all thankful," said Minister Ritz. "Many families turn to food banks at this time of year and I encourage everyone to donate to their local food bank so that all Canadians can enjoy the safe, high-quality food produced in this country."
Turkey Farmers of Canada is renewing its partnership with Food Banks Canada, contributing with an annual donation of $50,000 to help meet the needs of those in rural communities.The Turkey Farmers of Canada is a national organization that has served as the voice of Canada's registered turkey farmers for over 37 years.
"Turkey Farmers of Canada (TFC) is honoured to be partnering with Food Banks Canada for the third consecutive year," said TFC Chair Mark Davies. "We feel it's important to be supporting Canada's rural community food banks in their effort to provide turkeys and turkey products to Canadians in need."
Food Banks Canada is a national charitable organization representing the food bank community across Canada. The group depends on financial and gifts-in-kind support to reduce hunger in Canada by feeding people across the country.
"We are grateful to the Turkey Farmers of Canada and their network of farmers across the country," says Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks Canada. "Through this donation they are helping to ensure Canadian families have local, high quality protein on their tables for Thanksgiving this year."
