(firmenpresse) - NUREMBERG, GERMANY -- (Marketwire) -- 09/30/11 -- Where is accommodation comparatively expensive and in which big city do hoteliers lure by discounts? hotel.info, the free online hotel reservation service for more than 210,000 hotels worldwide, examined again the development of prices in big cities. The current findings of the hotel.info price barometer:

Results of the hotel price barometer for the Netherlands (prices in Euros)*

With a slight price increase and an average room rate of EUR 116.70 the hotel business in Amsterdam asserts its position as the most expensive hotel destination of the five big Dutch cities.

The Dutch dressage rider Adelinde Cornelissen won two gold medals in the European Championship in Rotterdam. For the local hotel business the increase of the room rates by 5.32 % was not enough to get a place on the winner's podium. With EUR 83.80 Rotterdam takes the fourth place among the national top 5.

In the same month last year, Eindhoven was the venue of the IPC world swimming championships. This year, the hotels of the five biggest Dutch cities lured -- by substantial discounts. The room rates dropped by about 7.5 % to EUR 83.36.

The room rates in Oslo increased by over 7 % to EUR 150.73 on average. Compared to the price level in other parts of Europe an overnight stay in the Norwegian capital city was the most expensive one. But in other Scandinavian cities accommodation was also not exactly cheap. Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki came third, fifth and eighth place. While the Danish capital benefited from the Triathlon KMD Challenge Copenhagen 2011, the average room rate in Stockholm dropped slightly by 1.08 %.

On international level the hotels in Amsterdam charging EUR 116.70 are more centrefield. Significantly more expensive were rooms in Moscow. With prices risen by 10.61 % to EUR 146.55, the Russian capital holds the second place. Not even half the amount was paid by guests in Berlin and Madrid. Holiday makers and business travellers paid around EUR 70 in these popular cities.

Among other big cities, New York, the Big Apple, takes the first place, closely followed by Rio de Janeiro.
