Bonnie Khang-Keating Joins SmithGroup as Co-Leader, Los Angeles Studio

(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/30/11 -- SmithGroup (), one of the nation's leading architecture, engineering, interiors, and planning firms, announced it has hired Bonnie Khang-Keating to co-lead operations for its Los Angeles Studio.

Khang-Keating has been an active member of the architectural and construction communities for over 18 years. A Los Angeles native, she makes the move to SmithGroup from Pasadena-based Keating/Khang Architecture, where she served as a managing partner for the past 10 years. From 2004-2007 Khang-Keating also held the role of director of design and construction at California Institute of Technology's campus planning department. Additional prior experience includes seven years as a project manager with Hellmuth Obata & Kassabaum (HOK).

Khang-Keating graduated from University of Southern California School of Architecture with a bachelor's degree in architecture. She is a recognized leader in the design community, having served as City of Pasadena Design Commissioner from 2007 to 2010, and City of Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commissioner from 2001 to 2003. She also participates with the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens and USC School of Architecture Alumni Association.

In her new role, Khang-Keating will serve in a leadership role for key projects and will be responsible for co-managing operations of the firm's Los Angeles Studio. She will also work to identify marketing opportunities for the firm, cultivating relationships with SmithGroup's existing client base and strategic new client targets in the higher education, healthcare and corporate arenas.

Khang-Keating's career has been marked by involvement in a range of notable new construction and renovation projects, including the $17 million Williams Performing Arts Center in Abilene, Tex.; Caltech's 62,300-square foot Warren and Katharine Schlinger Laboratory for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; renovation of Los Angeles' iconic 2.3-million square foot Century Plaza Towers, originally designed by Minoru Yamasaki in 1975; and the 700-bed Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center replacement hospital in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles.
