(firmenpresse) - NUREMBERG, GERMANY -- (Marketwire) -- 09/30/11 -- Where is accommodation comparatively expensive and in which big city do hoteliers try to lure by discounts? hotel.info, the free online hotel reservation service for more than 210,000 hotels worldwide, examined again the development of prices in big cities. Read more about current findings of the hotel.info price barometer:

With an average room rate of PLN 314.15 and an increase by 6.81 %, the hotel prices in Poznan spiralled and made the place the most expensive hotel destination among the five biggest Polish cities in August. Guests from Europe had to pay EUR 76.16 on average. Rates over PLN 300 or EUR 73.39 per night were also charged in the Polish capital taking it to the second place. Much less had to be paid in Krakow and Wroclaw. A room in Lodz was even almost one third below the rate charged by the front runner of the top 5.

The room rates in Oslo increased by over 7% to EUR 150.73 on average. Compared to the prices in other parts of Europe an overnight stay in the Norwegian capital city was the most expensive one. But in other Scandinavian cities accommodation was also not exactly cheap. Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki took the third, fifth and eighth place. While the Danish capital benefited from the Triathlon KMD Challenge Copenhagen 2011, the average room rate in Stockholm dropped slightly by 1.08 %.

A bit on the expensive side was Moscow on the other hand. An increase by 10.61 % to EUR 146.55 secures the second place for the Russian capital. Not even half the amount had to be paid by guests in Warsaw. Holiday makers and business travellers only had to pay an average price of EUR 73,39 in this popular city. Only Madrid, Berlin and Athens ranked better.

Among other big cities, New York, the Big Apple, holds a firm first place, closely followed by Rio de Janeiro. Zurich, too, saw a marked increase in room rates to EUR 164.53 on average.
