SIU Investigates Custody Death in Toronto
(firmenpresse) - MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/30/11 -- Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was being investigated by members of the Toronto Police Service (TPS).
The TPS contacted the SIU and advised that on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at approximately 6:50 PM officers were investigating a man on Parliament Street south of Dundas Street. The man was in medical distress and the officers transported him to St. Michael's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Five investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned. Anyone who may have information regarding this case is asked to contact the Unit at 416-622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529 Extension 1957.
The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must
