Wordans.com Enhances Online Retail Service With Real-Time Inventory

On Monday Wordans.com launches a real-time inventory for its custom t-shirt & apparel products. This makes Wordans.com the only Canadian online apparel retailer to implement a customer viewable, dynamically updated inventory of this size. The retailer shows more than 200 models and sizes of apparel listed and close to 4.5 million units in stock.
"This initiative was rolled out in an effort to increase buyer confidence by making the whole online ordering process as transparent as possible" said the company's president Eric Gautier. "Our goal is to move towards a "No Backorder" service."
The company, which allows customers to , apparel and accessories online is adjusting to the projected decline in retail sales in the US being reported by Shoppertrak and others. Gautier is betting that initiatives such as these will help online retailers offset the forthcoming slow down. He added that online retail is less affected by the rise in gas prices, so the key to weathering the storm is to provide consumers with the comforts and immediacy of traditional retail.
The implementation of the real-time inventory system "required coordination and information exchange along all the links in our supply chain, and we are continually working to improve and maintain this service," said Gautier. At the backbone, the Wordans' IT department is dynamically monitoring the supply of and apparel from multiple supplier feeds, then verifying and making the data available to the consumer. The IT department reported that in beta-testing, the system was already showing positive results based on consumer feedback and sales.
Wordans.com is a Montreal based online retailer of custom apparel and accessories. The company's product line includes t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and other apparel as well as posters and large format prints, and iPhone and iPad skins. The company, founded in 2009 by Eric Gautier, ships its customized products internationally.
