Year2Give, Algonquin College and Ottawa Community Housing Join Together to Announce a Very Special Community Action Day
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/23/11 -- On Saturday, a few hundred Algonquin students will be donating their skills and time in a Year2Give initiative benefiting five Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) communities. "It is a truly remarkable achievement we are witnessing today," comments Councillor Steve Desroches, Deputy Mayor and OCH Board Chair. "A grassroots initiative spearheaded by Christine Taylor and her Year2Give volunteers has reached out to Algonquin College and their students, who have enthusiastically responded with a record breaking display of giving."
Jeremy McQuigge, Student Transition Coordinator at Algonquin College, is thrilled with the response of the students. "This is yet another example of the enthusiasm of students to give back to the communities where they live and learn".
A Kick Off Ceremony begins at 11:00 am in the Rotunda of the B Building at Algonquin College. Students will be boarding buses at 12:00 pm, travelling to their volunteer assignments in the following communities:
Students are returning to Algonquin College at 5:15 pm for a Closing Ceremony in the A Building Campus lounge featuring food, music and guest speakers. The students will have engaged in a remarkable experience of community building while improving the quality of life for OCH tenants. Christine Taylor adds "Organizing for today was a huge task. What motivated me more than anything else was understanding just what a difference we would be making. I've seen it on every project we've done and this was an opportunity to do more good for more people than ever before."

Ottawa Community Housing Corporation is the largest social housing provider in Ottawa, and the second largest in Ontario. It provides 14,827 units to over 32,000, seniors, parents, children, singles and persons with special needs in 162 communities.
