Statement by Public Safety Minister on the Removal of Second Individual on CBSA "Wanted" List for Serious Criminality
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/22/11 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, and Shelly Glover, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, made the following statement after the Canada Border Services Agency today announced the removal of Shameer Allie who was apprehended following tips from the public:
"This removal demonstrates our government's ongoing commitment to protect Canadians and secure the safety of our communities," said Minister Toews. "Once again, the help Canadians are providing to Canada Border Services Agency has exceeded our expectations. We are sending a strong message that Canada's doors are not open to those who have broken the law and have endangered the safety of our citizens.
The Government of Canada does not tolerate those who come to this country and commit crimes and I am pleased this serious convicted criminal will no longer pose a threat to the safety of Canadians and our communities."
"Canadians are taking a stand against those who are in our country illegally," said Mrs. Glover. "Our Government is committed to removing individuals who are inadmissible because there are reasonable grounds to believe they have been complicit in, war crimes or crimes against humanity and those who have been convicted for acts of serious criminality committed in Canada."
