Warehousing for AX (WAX) Solution Meets High Volume Demand of National Transportation and Warehousing Company

Biagi Bros., a full service transportation, warehousing and logistics company, offers expert to clients across North America, primarily within the .
The Napa warehouse locations, which store more than 2.4 million cases of wine produced from a variety of wineries, are the 2nd and 3rd of the company's 16 locations to go live with WAX, and required additional customized functionality to accommodate the high volume, specialized needs of the warehouses.
Developed by Blue Horseshoe, (WAX) embeds advanced supply chain capabilities into to significantly extend warehousing functionality without using a separate (WMS).
Implementation of Dynamics AX and WAX systems included functionality for:
capturing bottling dates,
storing by date or other system-directed rules,
and picking by bottle, case, layer or pallet, automatically pulling the oldest bottle date first.
The systems also track:
bonded and tax-paid wine in inventory,
all warehouse activities that impact the quantity of wine in the warehouse,
and the tax status of the final ship-to location.
"When storing and shipping alcoholic beverages, multiple tax transactions need to be accurately tracked and reported to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB)," explained Nick Biagi, director of information technology at Biagi Bros. "It's vital these happen timely and accurately, and in the past this has proven to be a labor intensive process. Now our systems capture all the necessary information needed to comply with Federal rules and the rules of each State we ship to."
Biagi Bros. selected Blue Horseshoe to implement the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, as well as Blue Horseshoe's (WAX) and throughout its facilities. The company's Ontario, Calif. location went live with WAX at the end of 2010, the two Napa, Calif. warehouses are now complete, and plans of roll-out to additional locations is expected over the next 6-12 months.
