Traditional Bikini Contests Evolving to New Model of Fitness Competition
(firmenpresse) - NEW ORLEANS, LA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/01/11 -- Women's bikini and fitness contests have evolved from the days of Miss Hawaiian Tropic and intense bodybuilding competitions. In the past, women fell into one of two classifications: traditional beauty/bikini or bodybuilding. Originally, bodybuilding contests were exclusively for men with a select group of women that were interested in developing the level of muscularity necessary for traditional bodybuilding. However, recently, we are seeing a hybrid of the two classifications in which more women are dedicated to embracing a fit and healthy lifestyle yet enjoy the athleticism and fierce training that is needed in sports and classic bodybuilding. With these changing attitudes, the Olympia Bikini division of the famous Olympia Expo has gained immediate popularity because it is intense yet maintains femininity.
The National Physique Committee (NPC), and the International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) have recently added a "bikini" division to the Olympia Expo for female fitness athletes. This is the second year this division of the competition will take place. The action starts in Las Vegas this September 15-18 where contestants will be judged on shape, tone, symmetry, poise and overall beauty.
Barbara Bolotte, a 23-year-old New Orleans native, has competed in fitness and spokesmodel competitions. She was Ms. Planet Beach New Orleans in 2009. After competing in two local NPC competitions, she earned her pro card at the Atlanta Nationals. Most recently, she won her first pro show in Shreveport, qualifying her a spot at Joe Weider's Olympia Weekend 2011.
Barbara, a professional trainer for GymMatrix, is certified through American Sports and Fitness Association and will be one of 27 international IFBB Pro Bikini athletes vying for this coveted new championship title. She is determined to win the title and credits her trainer, Mary Lado, a figure pro that won the Arnold classic for her division in 2006, as her inspiration and motivation. Mary and Barbara are the only two people from Louisiana that have ever competed in the Olympia. With such strong determination and physical prowess, Barbara will be a force to reckon with at the "O"!
