Strong Car Sales Lead GM Canada Growth in August
(Data is Not Adjusted for the Difference in Selling Days; August 2011 Had 25 Selling Days and August 2010 Had 24 Selling Days)
(firmenpresse) - OSHAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/01/11 -- Driven by an 18 percent increase in passenger car sales, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers reported 25,045 deliveries in August, increasing seven percent from last year. Demand for cars and crossovers grew across the lineup, led by award-winning and fuel-efficient Chevrolet entries including Cruze, Malibu and Equinox.
"August sales clearly demonstrate customer enthusiasm for our newest products across all four brands, from fuel efficient cars and crossovers to full-size pickup trucks and premium luxury vehicles," said Marc Comeau, vice-president of sales, service and marketing at GM of Canada. "As our lineup continues to transform, we are bringing the right products to the market at the right time, and we'll build on this momentum with the launch of three new game-changing Chevrolet vehicles very soon: Volt, Orlando, and Sonic."
Led by the Chevrolet Cruze, Canadian Car of the Year, passenger car sales posted strong growth in August. The Chevrolet Malibu increased sales 60 percent, while the Canadian-built Buick Regal delivered its best month since launching, up 214 percent. Sales for the Cadillac CTS family also increased 35 percent compared to last year.
Furthermore, customer demand for GM's fuel-efficient crossovers continues to grow. The Canadian-built Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, two of North America's fastest-selling vehicles, increased sales 34 percent combined, up 30 percent year-to-date. GM's midsize crossovers - Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia - increased combined sales 12 percent.
August 2011 Key Facts and Brand Results
