Thousands Will Compete, Benefiting Oregon Mission of Mercy, to Provide Free Dental Services

(firmenpresse) - PORTLAND, OR -- (Marketwire) -- 08/31/11 -- All-Terrain Fitness, an independent fitness company serving individuals and organizations, is proud to announce the first annual Race the Reaper, a 5.6-mile obstacle race taking place October 1st and 2nd at Flying-M-Ranch in Yamhill, Oregon. Race the Reaper is a local, homegrown event designed to attract a new level of competition from runners, casual and elite athletes, adventure racers and teams who will inspire each other to push their whole bodies to a new level, at an affordable entry price.

Thousands are expected to sign up for the extreme run and obstacle course, with 18 challenges including crossing "skeletons pass," crawling through the "tunnel of doom" and running on rough trails. For a registration fee of $45-$55 (depending on the date of entry), racers choose what day is best for them to run the race. Participants will receive bragging rights, a T-shirt, a medal and for those at least 21-years-old, a Ninkasi Brewing beer token. Race the Reaper will also support teams of four to six racers, although no team awards will be offered. Register by September 27th at to ensure receiving a T-shirt and medal.

With the support of race participants and sponsors like Dave's Killer Bread, Gerber knives, Susan Weinberg, DMD and Westside Endodontics, a percentage of the proceeds will go to Oregon Mission of Mercy (MOM). MOM is an annual two-day free dental clinic that serves the needs of the uninsured, the under-insured and those with difficulty getting to a dentist, through portable dental stations set up in a Portland public arena.

"We have spent months working with ex-military civil and mechanical engineers to design a fun but extremely challenging course in scenic Yamhill," said Kevin Gilmore, All-Terrain Fitness co-founder and certified personal trainer. "We can't wait for racers to test their physical fitness limits, all while helping Mission of Mercy."

"The support from our local sponsors for Race the Reaper, the toughest obstacle race in Oregon, has been amazing," said Jenn Chesney, All-Terrain Fitness co-founder and Ace-certified personal trainer. "Everyone is excited to come out for two days of sweat, mud, beer and perhaps some tears as racers cross the finish line."

During the 5.6-mile race, runners can take head-on or bypass any of the 18 obstacles, so the difficulty can be tailored to one's personal fitness level. The course contains three water crossings and has an elevation gain of approximately 1,000 feet.

Participants will pick up race packets on the day of the race -- October 1st or 2nd. Camping is available on-site at the Flying M-Ranch. For other lodging options, visit the Travel Yamhill County website at: .
