Senator Yonah Martin Joins Korean War Veterans in Final Celebration
(firmenpresse) - WINNIPEG, MANITOBA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/30/11 -- On behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Yonah Martin, Senator for British Columbia, today joined dignitaries from Canada, the United States and the Republic of Korea in honouring Canada's Veterans of the Korean War. Senator Martin spoke to Veterans and their families from different countries at a banquet in Winnipeg. The banquet is one of a series of activities comprising "The Last Hurrah," the final large gathering planned by the Korea Veterans Association of Canada.
"On the battlefields of Korea, you demonstrated to the world that Canadians can be relied upon to fight for freedom when it is threatened," said Minister Blaney. "Today Canada honours you and the legacy you have created."
"You are calling this celebration 'The Last Hurrah,' but our Government will not cease to commemorate the role you and your fallen comrades played in Korea," Senator Martin told the assembled Veterans.
The reunion of Korean War Veterans will conclude tomorrow with a visit to Canadian Forces Base Shilo and tour of the Royal Canadian Artillery Museum.
