(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/30/11 -- Our Government is opposed to the Opposition's costly motion, which seeks to eliminate the residency requirement to receive Old Age Security.
The current ten-year residence requirement represents a balance between a reasonable contribution to Canadian society and the right to receive a lifelong pension.
This proposal would cost hard-working Canadians a billion dollars a year, at a time when they can least afford it.
It is offensive to Canadians who work hard and pay their taxes, and goes against Canadians' deeply ingrained sense of fairness and fiscal responsibility.
