Today's explosion in mobile apps, each connecting to several back-end services or APIs, is driving the rapid adoption of OAuth. OAuth is like a 'valet key' that enables consumers to try new apps using an existing account they already have (such as their Facebook or Google account), instead of needing to create a new account or password. However, while OAuth can make the authentication process for users of mobile and native apps much easier, using OAuth can be a complex and cumbersome process for developers.
The Apigee OAuth API lets developers quickly leverage multiple social and enterprise APIs. Developers can authenticate with the Twitter, LinkedIn, and Salesforce REST and Chatter APIs in one way then use native code libraries to build apps faster. Apps built with the Apigee OAuth API authenticate apps and users safely with less code and less development complexity. Initially available as a beta release for Salesforce Chatter, Force.com, Twitter and LinkedIn APIs, the Apigee OAuth API will soon support more APIs.
