(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/26/11 -- "I am pleased with the release of the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Keystone XL pipeline project.
"The EIS is a key step in the United States' approval process for the Keystone XL Project. We understand that consideration of the Keystone XL application now moves to a broader 'national interest determination,' which will also consider economic and energy security issues. The United States Administration has indicated that a final decision will be issued by the end of the year.
"The Government of Canada supports the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Canada is the United States' largest and most reliable energy supplier. We trade oil, natural gas and electricity across our shared border every day. The Keystone XL pipeline will help to ensure that North America's future energy needs are met in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for decades to come. Keystone XL will also play a crucial role in strengthening the North American economy.
"The Government of Canada will continue to cooperate with the United States to ensure reliable and secure fuel supply between our two countries and is firmly committed to the development of the oil sands in an environmentally and socially responsible manner."
